Senior Lidar Signal Processing Engineer

Blackmore Sensors and Analytics, Inc. seeks a Sr. Lidar Signal Processing Engineer to contribute to their research and product development efforts. Blackmore develops frequency modulated continuous wave lidar engines, sensors, and analytics for both defense and commercial markets.

Primary Responsibilities

Designing, validating, and testing the coherent lidar signal processing chain from new R&D concepts through to firmware and software on actual devices. Enabling Blackmore’s 3D lidar imaging architectures and hardware by developing innovative digital signal processing in embedded FPGA, Digital Signal Processing, and computing devices. Interacting with optical scientists and engineers on lidar measurement techniques and managing firmware, software, and electrical engineers. Ensuring simulated and laboratory developed signal processing techniques are implemented properly and traceably onto real-time embedded computing hardware. Writing and compiling reports and test plans.

Please note that these are required:

  • M.S. or higher in Electrical Engineering, Optics, Computer Engineering, Physics or relevant field

  • 10+ years of relevant work experience

  • Demonstrated expertise & proficiency in high-speed digital signal processing including familiarity with VHDL and/or Verilog

  • Ability to take initiative and lead tasks to solve challenging problems

  • Team player with strong written and oral communication skills

It would be really cool if you had some of these:

  • Programming FPGAs using Xilinx HLS, Intel FPGA SDK for OpenCL or similar

  • Signal processing for lidar, coherent ladar, radar, laser remote sensing and imaging, and/or laser beam scanning

  • Experimental lab skills with lasers, photonics, optics, fiber optics, high-speed ADCs and DACs

  • Fourier optics, diffraction theory, imaging systems, signal processing, solid state optics, and/or integrated photonics

  • Experience with any of the following software: Matlab, Python, C++/C#/CUDA, Java, Zemax, Code5, LabView
